Thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) is the fastest-growing single-ply product in commercial and industrial roofing, especially in southern climates where reflective, energy-efficient “cool roof” membranes have become the norm.
Single-ply membranes are thermoplastic or thermoset. Thermoplastics like TPO can be softened with heat and welded; thermosets like EPDM set irreversibly. Sheets are often reinforced with polyester scrim, glass fiber, or fleece, in common thicknesses from about 45 to 80 mils depending on the spec.
TPO can be fully adhered, mechanically attached, or ballasted — and often a mix (for example, insulation mechanically attached with the membrane fully adhered). We install TPO and other single-ply systems; call for a consultation on which attachment method belongs on your deck.
